Floor insulation options for all areas of the home

The best type of floor insulation depends on where the floor is located. We have solutions to solve a wide range of floor insulation problems in the home:

Floors over a garage

To make floors over the garage warmer, we typically use dense-packed cellulose to fill the cavity between the cold floor and the garage ceiling. Dense-packed cellulose insulation has a much higher R-value than fiberglass and can stop air flow. The result is floors and rooms above the garage that are warmer and more comfortable - and quieter!

Floors over a crawl space

Do you have cold floors and floor joists above your crawl space that are stuffed with fiberglass batts? This is a common problem with a simple solution. The problem with using fiberglass insulation in a crawl space is moisture adds weight to the fiberglass batts, causing them to sag, fall and lose their effectiveness. By sealing or encapsulating your crawl space, it becomes part of the conditioned (heated and cooled) area of your home. This method includes sealing the crawl space walls, floor, vents and rim joist. Rigid foam insulation can be added to the walls and floor for maximum comfort and energy savings.

Floors over a basement

When possible, we recommend that you convert the basement to a conditioned space. By insulating basement walls, floors and rim joist with the proper insulating materials, your basement will become much warmer and so will the floors above it. Rigid foam insulation works well in basements because it's not affected by water.

Basement floors

If you are looking for a solution to make your cold, hard concrete basement floor warmer and more comfortable, insulating the basement floor with foam board to reduce heat loss and eliminate condensation. What you'll get is a basement floor that's warmer and feels comfortable under your feet. Whether you're thinking about finishing your basement or want warmer rooms over your basement, we offer a variety of basement insulation options.

Floors over a cantilever

When the upper floor of a home overhangs the floor beneath, this is referred to as a cantilever. The portion of the floor that jets out can be a source of discomfort and energy loss. Unfortunately, most cantilevers aren't air sealed and are insulated with fiberglass. We can solve this by insulating cantilevers with spray foam, foam board or dense-packed cellulose; all of which offer high R-value and perform much better than fiberglass batts.
